Te Aho Tū Roa-Kōtuia!

1-5 September, Maketu Marae, Kawhia

“Kia mau ki Te Aho Tū Roa! Whiria mai ō kōrero, ōu ake pūmanawa, tōu ake aho. Whiria kia ū, whiria kia tū roa ai mō ngā uri whakatupu. Tihei mauri ora!”

Take hold of Te Aho Tū Roa! Weave in your stories, your talents, your threads.

Weave them firm so they can sustain the generations ahead.

Te Aho Tū Roa – Kōtuia! is a kaupapa that aims to support rangatahi Māori in kura and communities around Aotearoa and Te Waipounamu to connect People to People - People to Place

Using action and performance as the vehicle, fuelled by the power of story, rangatahi will explore their connections to their stories, history, community and place and bring it all together at Te Aho Tū Roa – Kōtuia!,  the first ever national youth-teaching-youth ‘Jam’ event for rangatahi Māori (age 13+) to be held 1-5 September 2010.

At the moment Hui ā-Rohe, regional cluster events, are taking place where students from participating kura are getting together to experience the power of unity through connection to the kaupapa, and to develop their stories into performances that will be shared at the Te Aho Tū Roa Jam.

Young Māori Making a Difference

Te RarangaTira put a call out with the intention to open up a place where young Māori who dream of a different world for their whānau, could come together and share stories with other young Māori who want to make a difference in their communities.  The call was answered and Te RarangaTira was held on the 23-27 Pāenga-Whāwhā, Leigh, Tāmaki Makau-Rau.

The wānanga was a huge success and provided a rich learning, growing and sharing environment where participants built strong connections and developed visions, actions and plans for collaboration in the future.  It was a peer-shared space – where we came together, to create together and grow together – focusing our intention on exploring our identity, naming some of the challenges we face and growing a vision for who we want to be and what we want to create as young Māori.

Te RarangaTira was a collaborative event that was pulled together with the support of The Enviroschools Foundation and Conscious Collaborations. Ngā mihi nui!

Check out TVNZ On Demand to view the I AM TV episode that featured part of the Te RarangaTira event.  This was screened on TV2 Saturday 15th of May at 10am.
