Tai Tapu School celebrates a decade of planting along their awa
For 10 years the Tai Tapu School community has been engaged in a special restoration project close to their school. Each year students gather enthusiasm and equipment to continue increasing the biodiversity of the river corridor by planting and caring for native seedlings. This has helped foster a connection with nature and grown knowledge of restoring local ecosystems.
Secondary students embrace in-the-field learning
Developed in partnership with Enviroschools, a stream monitoring programme is piloting experiential ways to engage year 13 students in relevant fieldwork during typically content-heavy NCEA assessments. It is hoped the pilot will eventually be adopted as a means of formal assessment as part of the school’s localised curriculum.
