Secondary Envirogroup Action Guide
This Action Guide has been written for rangatahi who are part of an Envirogroup in secondary schools – to support you as you plan, lead, and grow meaningful environmental action. Whether just getting started or ready to take your mahi to the next level, you’ll find clear steps,
inspiration, and practical tools to guide your Enviroschools journey.
This Action Guide will be in draft for 2026, as we trial it and gather feedback, with the aim to have a final version available in 2027.
Toimata Foundation would like to acknowledge and extend a heartfelt mihi to Hinerangi Price, for creating the original Envirogroup Handbook for rangatahi in Hawke’s Bay, while working for the Environmental Education Team, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. Her passion for empowering young people to become role models and catalysts for change in their communities is inspiring. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Hinerangi.
‘How To’ padlets
A padlet is a visual, real-time collaboration tool used to create online bulletin boards, documents, and webpages. These Enviroschools padlets have been developed to support secondary Envirogroups to take action in their school and community. Each padlet contains information, inspiration and lots of tips and ideas to help you on your journey. If there are other ‘How To’ padlets you would like to see created, please reach out to us at info@enviroschools.org.nz

Rangatahi-led Zoom hui
This concept of rangatahi-led zoom hui was developed by the Auckland REAL (Rangatahi Environmental Action Leaders) team in 2025. Secondary students from the REAL programme organised and facilitated an online zoom hui for other secondary Envirogroup students from around the country.
The purpose of these zooms is to:
- Share best practice between schools
- Foster and encourage leadership of rangatahi
- Show rangatahi that there are other schools doing great mahi
- Inspire rangatahi to take action
We have a template available that provides information on how to structure and run this kind of zoom session, and we encourage other regions to take up the opportunity to host a zoom in 2026. The national Enviroschools team can help promote your zoom to other regions and encourage Envirogroups to come along and take part.
