Havelock North High School (HNHS) became an Enviroschool at the end of last year and has been working away at sustainability projects while also raising the profile of their Environmental Committee.
This entertaining promotional video was made to encourage Year 12 students to join the Environmental Committee in their final year of school.
“Our school does not have prefects but does have a selection of Committees that are responsible for organising various events and activities throughout the year. For many of the students, this is their first chance to really take on a position of responsibility in the school and to lead other students.” – Brenda Jones, Teacher
All the school’s committees were charged with producing a short clip that would give a taste of what the group does, so that the 200 plus Year 12 students can see which groups might be of interest to them.
The Havelock North High School Environment Committee already has a reputation as being one of the hardest working in the school, and since joining the Enviroschools programme they have one of the most visible presences within the school community.
“Because of the work we have done in Havelock North and having leaders who have been very social media savvy at promoting our activities, I would modestly suggest we have a high local visibility.” – Brenda Jones, Teacher, proudly talks about the mahi of the committee
The group also have the largest number of younger students involved, so the Year 12s watching this will know that if they are going to join, they have a pretty busy year ahead of them!
