Collaborative approach to Sustainable Change in Waiouru
Working together in Waiouru has been advanced through a tuākana tēina approach between Museum staff and students at the local school. This initiative has seen young people question the staff about their current practices and exploring alternatives together. Likewise, the Museum staff have provided opportunities for learning for the young people and supported them on their sustainable journey.
Ruapehu Schools Planting for Outdoor Classrooms
Two schools in the Manawatū Whanganui Region have visions of outdoor learning areas within the school grounds. One day, learning will flow easily from the classroom to outside with lots of opportunities to connect with and learn about the local ecology. The school communities have started to realise this dream by preparing the ground and planting natives. Learning has already begun!
Buzz at Bunnythorpe
There was a buzz of conversation as a result of a bee enquiry learning last year. Local beekeepers helped build knowledge and skills so that students were able to make informed and well supported decisions about keeping bees at Bunneythorpe School. Each family got to take home two jars of the honey and they have kept some honey at school to use in their baking and to give away to special visitors.
Re-visiting Waste Minimisation at Whanganui Girls'
Whanganui Girls' High students have been addressing waste issues at their school through creative approaches, reducing, reusing, recycling and re-imagining across different areas of school. Waste audits have led to gaining insights into success of actions and inspired next steps.
