Children from Picton School’s kaitiaki group have been working with the community on a project that involved seeds being collected two years ago from the 140-year-old tōtara tree in their school grounds. These were propagated and nurtured by local Marlborough Forest and Bird Chairman Andrew John and then 5 saplings were transplanted by tamariki back at the school. Fifty more of these precious tōtara will be planted around Picton in areas such as Kaipupu Point Sanctuary.
